The DCS/CTSS systems are only a means to control which signals you "hear" on that given channel. Which, is actually what I wanted to hear, since that means I don't really have a reason to get a new scanner. Like you said, for the 500, I don't think it's a big deal. He said that since those are just ways to control squelch, that if multiple people are broadcasting on the same frequency with different codes, if your receive was set to a code that was being broadcast, that the radio would just allow the audio on that channel through, which would be everything all at once. I actually just texted a friend that I remember is a HAM radio guy.
